چکیده

Emergency general surgery (EGS) represents 11% of acute hospital admissions. Appendectomy is the most common among emergency abdominal surgeries. Meckel’s diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital malformation of the gastrointestinal tract. The complications of MD are observed in 4-6% of cases. The purpose of the study was to identify the group of patients who underwent Meckel’s diverticulum dissection as a part of Emergency General Surgery. This study retrospectively evaluated the medical records of the adult patients admitted to the Department of General and Transplantation Surgery, who underwent EGS between January 2006 and July 2014. Between January 2006 and July 201410 844 surgeries were performed in the Department of General and Transplantation Surgery. The most common procedure was appendectomy. There were 11 patients who underwent Meckel’s diverticulum resection. In one case, preoperative diagnosis of Meckel’s diverticulum was made. Heterotopic gastric mucosa was detected in 27.2% cases of removed MDs. The symptomatic group included two male patients (18.1%). Meckel’s diverticulum resection is an extremely rare procedure among EGS. Most of resected MD’s are incidental. Symptomatic MD requires surgical intervention but there is still no clear statement about asymptomatic MD surgical treatment. Individual approach in case of incidental asymptomatic MD is recommended..
